Ford GT40 Recreation by CAV

This is one of the most highly spec'd GT40 Recreations ever produced by respected South African specialist Cape Advanced Vehicles (CAV). Such is the reputation of these cars that for the past two years a Gulf Liveried CAV GT40 has been the Pace Car for the Motor Racing Legends Le Mans Classic, in 2006 driven by Stirling Moss. Our car, built at a cost of over £85,000, was the company's 2006 static demonstrator before being registered for the road, with SVA (Single Vehicle Approval) in December of that year.

The rise of the Ford GT40 is one of motor racing greatest stories. When Ford's ambition to win Le Mans with the $10m acquisition of Ferrari ultimately failed, the company set about building their own car, setting up a specialist division FAV (Ford Advanced Vehicles) headed by Eric Broadley, in the UK. In just over a year the first prototype, complete with mid-mounted Ford V8 engine and monocoque chassis appeared yet it was to be another two years before Ford tasted victory,  but when they did, they dominated the event. From 1966 to 1969 the Ford GT40 won Le Mans and in its debut year three GT40s crossed the finishing line.

With original cars costing in excess of £1m the CAV GT40 offers an affordable recreation of the highest build quality.
Clothed in a Le Mans wide spec body with Gurney bubble driver's door and double nostril nose, the 5000cc Ford 302 V8 engine (no.8361) with ceramic coated exhaust produces 450 bhp and propels the car from 0-60 in just 4 seconds. Featuring an Audi 6-speed gear box with a reverse gear safety change, and 'smooth action' clutch our car was specified with touring rather than racing in mind. Therefore there are a number of modern touches like air con, rear view camera, leather upholstery and additional cabin lighting, sound system and even SAT NAV. Period features include BRM wheels, Gulf livery, and racing bag fuel tanks with breather taps and changeover switch. The floor has also been specially lowered for a taller driver.

This car is in mint condition with little more than delivery mileage on the clock, and is for sale at a price that represents a saving of over £10,000 if the same car was ordered today. A personalised GT regisitration plate is also included in the sale.
