1953 HWM Jaguar Special Recreation
Inspired by hill climb ace Phil Scragg's HWM Jaguar-engined Special of the 1950s, this unique all-alloy recreation is the work of New Zealand specialists Tempero. Better known for their C and D-Types, Tempero built this one-off for a wealthy customer who wanted to combine 50s period styling with a more powerful 4.2 engine with triple carbs, overdrive gearbox and disk brakes. Featured in magazine articles and presented in excellent condition, this car is truly unique and attractively priced. The car also comes with a genuine Herbert Johnson Racing Helmet once owned by Phil Scragg. Founded in 1946 HWM (Hersham & Walton Motors at Walton on Thames) by the drivers George Abecassis and John Heath, HWM cars were made for hill climb, daily use, and track and their Formula 3 cars had a considerable reputation. Initially Alta-engined, and later Jaguar powered, they were campaigned by the likes of Paul Frere, Stirling Moss, Peter Collins and Lance Macklin. Having sold cars in only limited numbers the company eventually closed when John Heath was killed in a crash in the 1956 Mille Miglia.
