Information
We have handled several Proteus C-Types in the past but this has to be the best. It dates from a time when founder Jim Marland still ran the company, and which many C-Type aficionados regard as the halcyon period. There is an attention to detail and authenticity not found on most C-Type recreations of this kind, and it is clothed in a hand-beaten all-aluminum single door body, with paint work by XK Engineering. It is even registered as a C-Type.
The car was built in 1994 for a wealthy industrialist, the late Gerald Tams, who had a large collection of XKs. It was built for him to a high specification by Don Law, a classic Jaguar specialist, using a car supplied by Jim Marland. In the Jaguar fraternity Don Law has become something of a legend: he has provided race support Jaguar’s racing team; he has had responsibility for maintenance and restoration of a number of cars in Jaguar’s Heritage Collection; he and his son Justin Law race Group C Jaguars and today he specialises in the Jaguar XJ220, and is considered a world authority. Not so long ago he also looked after Stirling Moss’s C-Type.
In recent years the car has undergone a further transformation with an investment of nearly £20K on a race prepared engine and gearbox, by renowned racing specialists Sigma Engineering. However the owner has also retained the original 3.4 litre engine and Moss 4-speed box which are available as an alternative. Therefore the future owner has the choice of the car in road/race trim, which would make for a formidable road and highly competitive track car or in standard C-type production car specification for touring. The car is currently fitted with twin sandcast SU carbs it will be re-fitted with triple Webbers for the new owner.
This is a well-sorted Proteus C-Type which has been expertly maintained and has acquired a a light but very pleasing patina. Ecurie Ecosse blue with red leather.
