Stunning and recently completed recreation of the Wolf Barnato’s 1930 Gurney Nutting-bodied tourer, based on 3.5 Derby Bentley which has been in the same family ownership for nearly 50 years. Restoration was carried out by Fiennes Engineering, with the engine rebuild costing £35K alone.
Originally a Park Ward saloon this Derby Bentley, chassis No. B157DK, has been in the same family ownership for nearly 50 years. Finally laid up when the body deteriorated beyond repair it was decided to use the rolling chassis as a basis for the recreation of ‘Bentley Boy’ Wolf Barnato’s 1930 Gurney Nutting-bodied Supercharged 4.5 Litre Bentley. The chassis, suspension and engine rebuild were done by Fiennes Engineering. The work to the engine included new pistons/liners, mains, big ends, cam regrind, balancing, block repairs and the ‘extra oil’ modification to the crank and fitting of a high capacity pump and oil filter system. The car has covered approximately 2000 trouble-free miles since the restoration was completed. The whole is clothed in a superbly crafted, all aluminium, boat tailed body. Only one other Derby Bentley Special is known to share this body style.
Without doubt one of the finest Derby Bentley Specials in existence. A rare opportunity to own a wonderfully rakish and beautifully executed recreation.
